Get SEO Ready, All Worth It? Blogging To Earn Journal – Week 3

There are so many articles out there talking about how to improve your posts to get a green light on SEO Yoast so that it will be easier for all the search engines to find your blog.  This will result in lots of traffic coming your way.  I have summarized the key to do’s to maximize your SEO below.

Get SEO Ready – Check List:

Once you’re in SEO Yoast:

  • Fill in “keyword” and “meta description”
    • Note:  singular vs plural will show up differently and give different results
      • Word order will also yield different results i.e. macaroni and cheese vs cheese and macaroni
    • Use long tail keywords instead of short tail (or one or two words) – they are more specific and contain multiple words or almost a sentence i.e. earrings with gold Swarovski crystal and freshwater pearls vs earrings
  • Make sure your title, URL and first paragraph contain the keywords you specified
  • Use keywords in H2 format
  • Permalinks – should change from Default setting to Post Name setting
    • For WordPress, goto Settings / Permalinks then Common Settings – Post Names – Save Changes  This will change your web link from Default: LilyDaily.com/p=1288 to LilyDaily.com/SEO-CheckList
  • Add “alt tags” and titles to your photos, including VARIATIONS of keywords!  Do not use the exact same title and alternative text for every photo!  This will be scored very unfavourably by the search engines as it appears that there’s keyword stuffing (spamming).  Also do not add these same keywords throughout the post, it’ll also appear as keyword stuffing.
  • Add a few relevant outbound links as references if applicable
  • Post should have 300+ words

Of all the materials I read on SEO, I find this the most useful.

I have to admit, for all the “green light” SEO blogs that I posted, I really do not see a significant increase in traffic.  I will work on updating my SEO for the rest of my old posts this week.  Let’s see how that goes.

‘Till next time,

xox Lily.
