Totally Exposed Baked Kale Chips

This is another high nutrient, extremely affordable (at $1.89 for the whole bunch!) and super easy recipe.

All you need are as follows:

  • 1 bunch of kaleLily Daily - Kale Chips Exposed
  • olive oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Heat oven to 350F

Even though only the leafs are edible, Kale is known for it’s highly nutritional content.  If you have never prepared it before, this is what to do.

You need to de-stem the kale by grabbing the stems through the hand or fingers and push all the way up:Lily Daily - Kale Chips Exposed1

Trim the stem if some thicker ones are still on the leaf:

Once everything is de-stemmed, the bunch of kale earlier should look like this, leafs separated from the stems, which can be later discarded.

Wash kale:Lily Daily - Kale Chips Exposed9

Pass it through the spinner to dry.  It’s so important to make sure that they’re fully dried.  Did I say that they need to be totally dry?  Yes, dry!

There are two secret steps that guarantee your kale chips a success.  The first secret is making sure your leafs are bone dry.  What I did is after drying them in the spinner, I put the kale leafs in one layer on trays or chopping boards and leave them to air dry for a couple of hours.

Once they are dry, transfer them to a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil and sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.  The second secret to making successful kale chips is to take the time to massage each leaf with oil, salt and pepper.  Cover every square inch, not one bit is missed.  Then place in the oven.

15 minutes later… all done!  …. okay, I have to admit… they look AWFUL.  Dry and unappealing!
